The Thrift Store Dandys
Christopher Andrew Cooke writes, arranges and plays all the instruments in the studio recordings. For live performances a rhythm section is added making the band a powerful trio.
Chris got his start as a musician playing in several bands, first as a bassist, then guitarist-singer/song writer from Florida to Chapel Hill and eventually in NYC. He then took a break from music and decided to move to Tokyo.
While living in Tokyo (for over 25 years), Christopher immersed himself in the art & music scene where he discover dandyism, that became his lifestyle. He slowly re-incorporated his musical background by making music for short films.
As covid started to lock down Japan, Christopher decided to return to the states. First in LA, where he worked on instrumental projects, then retruned to NY and started to develop ‘The Thrift Store Dandys’ sound. Focusing on textured, distorted guitars sounds, using Gretsch guitars. Specifically, older, discontinued Electromatic models, made in Korea. The Rhythm section is straight forward and a mix between rock & funk.
He then decided to move to North Carolina, were he enjoyed playing many years ago. “The location for playing live is great and people here really appreciate live music in many different formats, from large, live venues to small coffeehouses”
